Brick

Brick has been the most popular building material in Ukraine, especially among private developers, for several decades now.

Brick houses have the following advantages:

    • durability - a brick house can last 100-150 years without reconstruction;
    • reliable heat and sound insulation;
    • high fire resistance;
    • not susceptible to the effects of fungi, mold and microorganisms;
    • brick houses “breathe”, they have a favorable microclimate;
    • the possibility of constructing houses of various configurations and using reinforced concrete floor slabs.

      Brick - types and applications

Depending on the technology and raw materials from which this material is made, it can be:

    • ceramic
    • silicate (white)
    • refractory (fireclay)

Ceramic brick — a reliable, durable, warm, environmentally friendly material. It is produced by firing clay and its mixtures. It is divided into ordinary and facing. The purpose is clear from the name: ordinary bricks are used to lay out walls, facing bricks are used to “make beauty” on facades. Depending on the manufacturer and other factors, facing bricks cost 1.5-2.5 times more than ordinary bricks.

Ordinary ceramic bricks are the basis of the masonry. The facade laid with such bricks can be plastered, covered with siding, etc.

Silicate brick, which has a lower price and a smooth surface, is better not to use for housing construction. It consists of 90% sand, 10% lime and a small proportion of various additives. It is better to use this type of brick for the construction of outbuildings, garages, etc.

Facing bricks have a uniform color and two smooth, even front surfaces ("butt" and "spoon"). There are also textured bricks with a relief pattern on the front surface and figured ones - for laying arches, pillars, etc.

In addition, according to size, bricks are divided into single, one and a half and double.

Also brick classified into hollow and solid. The more voids in the brick, the warmer the brick house. Voids can occupy up to 50% of brick. It is believed that hollow brick is advantageous, because the walls can be made thinner, and the thermal insulation of the house will be exactly the same as when using solid brick. In addition, hollow bricks weigh less, which means the load on the foundation will be less.

But the warmest and also having good sound insulation is considered to be porous brick.
