Painting the walls

Painting the walls can completely change the character of the interior. Using commercially available decorative paints gives almost unlimited possibilities in finishing interior walls.

Modern decorative paint can be matte or glossy, imitate the texture of natural wood, stone. A painted wall can look like it is covered with wallpaper or fabric. Such paint, as a rule, does not contain harmful substances, and what is important - walls painted with it can be washed.

Types of paints

There are paints with excellent vapor permeability and paints that are particularly resistant to moisture, making them suitable for use in the bathroom or kitchen.

Most ready-to-use interior paints consist of various polymer resins and modified additives that will improve the consumer properties of the product. There are several groups of interior wall paints, depending on the main film-forming component, although in reality paints usually contain a mixture of various binders. So, paints can be divided into:

acrylic paint

  • polyoctane - used for applying thin layers of adhesive paints;
  • acrylic – universal paints, have good elasticity and high opacity;
  • latex - characterized by high resistance to abrasion, elasticity and excellent vapor permeability.

They are best used in areas with high humidity levels – kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, etc.;

  • alkyd - for creating hard, water-resistant coatings with high adhesion to the base. Their ingredients are used mainly in insulating paints;
  • mineral - these paints are rarely used today due to the low strength of the coating. As a rule, they are used only in dry rooms.

Interesting decorative effects can be achieved with mosaic paint. The different drying speeds of its various components allow mechanical removal (using a roller, brush or cloth) of certain fragments, which allows creating original patterns on the walls.

A good visual effect is not always achieved only by good paint. Much depends on the tools and professionalism of the painter. For example, if the transparent coating is applied with a brush with short bristles, a pattern with a "sharp" texture will be obtained on the surface.

Applying two layers of paint of the same shade with a long-bristled brush allows you to get a denser structure for the wall covering. In short, a lot depends on your creativity here.
